Eir - Goddess of healing by NicoleCadet Eir - Goddess of healing by NicoleCadet
Eir was a goddess of healing in the Norse pantheon. She's sometimes attributed to the Valkyries, as well as being a hand maiden of Freya. A common herb used for healing by the Vikings was Angelica.

Hi Nicole your art was the only one I could found of Eir that has a symbol, could you tell me more about it or if I could find it in other place. Sorry for the english i'm from Brazil and I would love to tattoo something with relation to her. Your work is amazing btw.

Hi and thank you! The symbol behind her is just a viking/ Saxon decorative pattern so is completely unrelated to Eir (was simply an artistic motif). The Angelica plant was commonly used by vikings in healing (it's thought they brought the herb to the rest of Eastern Europe), which is Eir's primary aspect. She is thought to have passed down healing skills to women. There is very little written about her and many argue as to whether she was a goddess or simply a named Valkyrie. I have seen a lot of writing on spiritual blogs that seems to link her to fire/ copper/ hearths - in many ways having similar skills to Brigid - though I think that's more people personalising her.

As long as the site is a non-profit site, the images are not altered (i.e. no text added on the image, no sparkles, no recolouring), and art is credited with my name and a link back to my main website ([link]) that's fine :) Thanks for asking!

I didn't know much about Norse mythology but the other day I was doing a research about non-Greek (the mythology I know better) Gods and Goddess of healing and found out about Eir. I found her very very interesting, but it has been really hard to find good art of her. This piece is fantastic and sets an amazing view of this Goddess

I really love this image. :) I love the little nod to Art Nouveau in it. I see that you have it available as a print, but I was wondering if you might make it available as a greeting card?

It depends on what you read. I found references to her in many roles/ situations. This was simply one interpretation :)

Cool, just like some people think that Frigga and Freya might be one in the same! Though, I'm not sure what to think on that one.

Hi

I have featured this deviation in my journal as a thumbnail because I like it and want my watchers to see it.

If you object to your work being displayed in this manor - I have every respect for you and will remove it as soon as I receive a note from you asking me to remove it.

Keep up the really great work.
