Book cover designers value Author safety
While seeing a lot of wonderful and inspirational work in art and book cover design, I am also seeing a lot of creative common licensed stock (That I am VERY familiar with due to 10 years of digital art and being a member of a LOT of art and stock communities).
What I AM seeing does not add up… I am seeing creative commons licensed stock from websites such as deviant art, that do have restrictions and even require PAYMENT for publication use, used for premade covers. Payment from DA artists can range from $50 – $1000 for use of their stock in publication. It all varies on the use and print run. Yet some cover designers are selling their covers for $30 – $80.
Firstly I advise all Authors to do their research on their cover designer. Yes, there are competitive prices on wonderful cover designs. Find the one that suits you. Prices in the mid Hundreds are cheap for a design. As an author you will be a winner with all the sales the cover design will make you.

Tutorial and resources update!
Hey everyone, just keeping my journal up to date with my newest tutorial and also my older freebies too
Firstly I just wanted to mention that I'm streaming more often these days over on my twitch channel, where I answer lots of questions! And all streams are archived over on my youtube channel
My latest tut is now available through gumroad.
The video tutorial is 1.15 hours long and covers everything from the initial sketch to final colour, covering composition, colour, value, layer effects etc. Pretty much everything I could think to talk about! Experienced painters will likely know all of this and more, but I always try to cover everything for the sake of any beginners watching. It's quite different from previous tutorials as this is a full blown scene, rather than just a stand alone character.

When you ask about book covers don't
I have a lot of inquires about using stock for book covers as well as other commercial works. Inquiries come from a number of different sources including: publishing companies, designers, and sometimes from the authors themselves. Here is some of the things I have noticed about a lot of these messages that are more damaging then helpful, and un professional. Please understand that this isn't about anyone in general nor do I feel anyone is being rude or disrespectful purposefully. I thought it would be helpful for the people inquiring and for other stock artists on DA.
One of the biggest things I see is asking if the price listed is correct, and then giving a much lower number that you have paid for other stock.
-If I or any other stock provider has set a price it's because that is the price they feel comfortable offering. It's usually lower then they should offer, and telling them inadvertently it's too high is deva
